HANNAH MARIE MARCUS

Hannah Marie Marcus is an interdisciplinary creator from New York City. As a songwriter and musician she’s written recorded snd performed numerous solo albums, and has collaborated with diverse artists including saxophonist/composer Matana Roberts, artist Nina Katchadourian, members of Godspeed You!Black Emperor, Mark Kozelek, author Rick Moody and many others. Her songs have been described as “visionary” and “shattering.” (Hearsay UK).

As an olfactory explorer she has created performance pieces and installations in New York and Los Angeles. As Lion Wintersea she is forming an olfactory cult in which she channels a 40,000 year old kumquat who divines the immediate future through smelling scent-infused citrus.

She is working on a scent-musical piece inspired by speculative events in the lives of chemists Hugo Schiff and Klara Immerwahr. She also has a cajun band called Red Aces and an Ambient Noise duo called Wintersea Playboy. She loves to play with scent, sound and narrative in both unexpected and familiar ways.
