SCHIFFROMANCY
Schiffromancy is an active performance project. It began with an event that took place on October 29th 2023.
Channel Lion Wintersea was called to conduct an urgent scent seance interrogating the smell of Ugo Bel Aria, a luxury perfume that had long ago been pulled from the market within days of its launch due to unexplained disruptive phenomena surrounding its release.
For the seance Wintersea led the participants through a scent retrieval utilizing an old bottle of Ugo Bel Aria which she had procured under
obscure circumstances.
During the course of this scent retrieval Wintersea extracted a mysterious compound from the perfume with the power of her mind.
The compound was in fact a Schiff base: a reaction
product that is formed when specific chemicals are combined.
This scent retrieval revealed uncomfortable secrets tied to a substance contained deep within the Schiff base. The substance was a molecule known as heliotropin, so named by perfumers due to its unique cherry pie smell, which evokes the smell of heliotrope.
Heliotrope is also known as “cherry pie flower.” It contains no heliotropin. Don’t worry about it.
Ultimately a cherry pie was delivered from the astral plane by an apparition of Schiff himself, as proof of his presence and as a gesture of goodwill. The pie was consumed.
There are secrets too sensitive to be revealed in this public forum, but are being held close by the seance participants. Work is being done to explore their deeper implications.
